The Greek Haemophilia Society (GHS) was founded in 1964 from some of the most influential doctors and members of the community of Greek patients with haemophilia. In 1964 GHS also joined forces with the World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH), while since 1989 our society is a founding member of the European Haemophilia Consortium (EHC) and a founding member of the Greek National Confederation of People with Disabilities.
The Greek Haemophilia Society was a pioneer for its time. Patients, their parents, doctors and friends who embraced the vision and shared faith for a better future for the patients with haemophilia and bleeding disorders participated and played their role in the protection of patients with haemophilia in Greece. Today, GHS continues to play a very important role in safeguarding the rights of sufferers in treatment and participation in society and life.
GHS has as a purpose to protect and reinforce by any means the rights and the life of people with haemophilia and other bleeding disorders in Greece. The main concern of our society is the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of the unpleasant consequences and disabilities resulting from the disease, as well as the support in all ways of the sufferers. Furthermore, in GHS we pay a continuous effort to integrate people with hemophilia into the productive process and to organize actions aiming at raising awareness to the state and the public about patients’ problems and abilities in order to combat prejudice.
